Pappaw you will be greatly missed. We couldn't get a better grandfather than you, cause you are the greatest one can get. It will be hard to not have you here on earth with us, but I know you are I in heaven watching over us. I love you. You are my hero.
Friday I attended the funeral of a 95 year old man I never knew or met. I got there first as I was 2.5 hours away and did not want to miss it due to traffic construction so I left early. I went inside, looked around and began to know the man. His name was Leslie Eubank and his son is Dave Eubank. I worked with Dave on a 911 project and came to have a great respect for him. He is strong, determined, highly intelligent and works to provide communications through out WV to emergency response agencies. His father was a WWII vet with 2 purple hearts and had fought in many famous and terrible battles. The decorations in the funeral home made it obvious the man was A SOLIDER a thus is his son. A solider doing what has to be done for the freedoms and good for all. I heard stories of his life and how he asked God to let him come home alive and he would serve him. He was 1 of 6 to come home alive in his group of the 82nd Airborne. Other stories were about his wife of FOREVER, who sat there and was as sweet as pie yet TUFF, just like him, and their children growing up gardening and playing in the creek. There he was, there she was and I saw my parents, the same kind of folk. REAL folk! I cried. I cried because his grandson read a story about soldiers. The politicians, actors and other famous people get much attention when they pass but the SOLDIER gets very little yet HE, not them, have saved us time and time again. I cried because we are a spoiled generation. He, my father and thousands like him understood what had to be done and why. We don't. And so I cried because I am afraid there are not enough like Mr. Eubank and my Daddy left to save us the next time. I am so afraid of the future of my Country. Thank you Mr. Eubank. I never met you but I know you now and I now know where your son gets his GREAT qualities.
So sad to hear of the passing of another member of " the greatest generation ", a WWII veteran. The family can take great pride in his service to his country and his contribution to our freedom.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
