Veteran Burial Services - Braxton County West Virgina

Veteran Burial Services

The staff members of Stockert Funeral Home and Cremation are committed to providing the highest level of care for honorably-discharged veterans and their families. This means we are up-to-date on all the federal mandates regarding veteran's death benefits, and can assist you by completing all required paperwork. In addition, we can arrange for full military honors at the time of interment. These can occur both in a private cemetery, as well as at any of the 131 national cemeteries across the country.

The veteran burial services we can provide your family are guided by–but certainly not limited to–these mandates. The family can choose to have unique and very personal honoring elements within the funeral or graveside committal services, which integrate with those military funeral honors provided by local servicemen.

When Choosing Burial in a National Cemetery

The veteran burial services available those veterans wishing to be interred in a national cemetery(with available space for interment) can be obtained at no cost to the family, and include:

  • The cemetery gravesite
  • Opening and closing of the grave
  • Perpetual care of the gravesite
  • A government headstone or marker
  • A burial flag
  • A Presidential Memorial Certificate

Any items or services not listed here which are desired by the family and obtained from us will be at the family's expense. There are also burial benefits available for the spouse and dependents of veterans as well. Please call us at (304) 765-5371 to learn more.

Burial in a Private Cemetery

If the veteran or the surviving family chooses burial in a local privately-held cemetery, the veteran burial benefits can include:

  • A burial allowance to cover the cost of the cemetery plot
  • A government headstone or medallion
  • A burial flag
  • A Presidential Memorial Certificate

Please be aware while there is no charge for the headstone or marker, the cost of setting the headstone in a privately-held cemetery are the responsibility of the surviving family. You should also know that, when choosing burial in a privately-held cemetery, there are no Veteran's Administration benefits available to spouses and dependents.
