Waveleen Duffield, 92, of Gassaway, WV, went home to be with the Lord on November 10, 2019. Waveleen was born on November 20, 1926 in Tague, WV to Arch and Susie Jarvis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Howard.
Waveleen is survived by her son Clayton Short and wife Patricia of Byesville, OH; daughter Nancy Johnston and husband Curtis of Fairmont, WV; grandchildren: Matthew Short (Kristi), Alisha Short (Charles), Monica Grande, Wesley Howard (Ashley), and Nicole Herndon; great-grandchildren: Victoria Short, Susanna Short, Sydney Grande, Stella Howard and Amelia Howard; and one very beloved canine companion Meme.
Waveleen took great pride in growing a garden and canning her crop. She made the best home-cooked meals. In her spare time she filled her bird feeders and watched her birds. She especially favored the humming birds. Waveleen attended Gassaway Baptist Church before she moved to River Oaks. Waveleen thought of Meme, her beloved companion, as one of her children. Nicole, her granddaughter has been and will continue to provide Meme’s care.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations payable to Sugar Creek Cemetery or to Amedisys Hospice of Clarksburg. Expressions of sympathy and fond memories may be shared at stockert-paletti.com, a service of Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home.

I already miss my sweet Wavy! I miss her coming to my office daily, we shared many laughs together and even some tears. She was the sweetest lady. In just the short 11 months that I have worked at River Oaks, I became very fond of Miss Wavy as she did me. She thought me and my coworker were sisters. We helped her eat and we always told her my sister cooked for her. I miss her coming to my office and saying, come on, let’s go! Rest In Peace Wavy! Although we miss you at the River, Heaven gained a beautiful angel!
