Obituary for Oras Ray McNemar Jr.

Oras Ray McNemar, Jr., 92, of Burnsville, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 peacefully in his sleep at his home in Burnsville.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife, Minnie Hilderbrand McNemar; his brother, John McNemar; three children: Robert, Loretta, and Peter McNemar; and two grandchildren; Toni and Jeremy McNemar.
He is survived by his son: Oras Ray McNemar, III and wife Trixie of Clarksburg, WV and grandchildren: Leslie Strange and husband Clifton and Jordan McNemar; by his son: Charles McNemar and wife Linda of Ayer, MA and grandchildren: Andrew, Allison and Erin McNemar; by his son: Bruce McNemar and wife Dawna of Brandenburg, KY and grandchildren: Peter, Damian McNemar, and Kynarose McManaway; by his daughter: Marilouise McNemar-Dean of Burnsville, WV and grandchildren: Brian McNemar and spouse Zachary, Johnathan McNemar, Sarah Dean and Benjamin Dean; by his daughter: Sharon Jones and husband Rodney of Dusk Camp, WV and granddaughter: Sophia Rexrode and husband Travis; by his son: James McNemar of Burnsville, WV; his sister: Helen Cole, of Clarksburg, WV; and by great-grandchildren: David McNemar, Harold McNemar, Naomi Browning, Zander Rexrode, Zane Rexrode and Kyson McManaway.
Oras Ray, Jr was born October 8, 1927 in his boyhood home on Church Street in Burnsville, WV; the son of the late Oras Ray, Sr and Mary Reynolds McNemar. He graduated from Burnsville High School in 1945, playing on the basketball team. SFC Oras Ray McNemar, Jr is a United States Army Veteran. In January 1946, he joined the United States Army and served in occupied Japan, Korea during the War, and in Germany. Stateside, he served in Virginia, Kentucky, New York and Maryland until he retired in June 1967. He married Minnie Naomi Hilderbrand, of Van, WV on July 3, 1952, while he was on a 7 day leave from the Army. He worked the night shift at the Weston State hospital as a nurse’s aide and simultaneously as the caretaker at the K and P cemetery in Burnsville, WV. The growing family lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Germany, New York and Maryland before moving to Burnsville in 1966 just before he retired. Oras was known for living his life by the saying “Whatever you do, never get old!” He was a member of the Burnsville VFW post #3757. In 2013, he was Grand Marshall for the Burnsville Alumni reunion. He also was a contributor of the Burnsville Public Library. His hobbies were gardening, horseshoe pitching (he won tournaments in the Army and in Burnsville), storytelling (he had many stories of Burnsville and the Army), and providing his grandchildren a loving second home.

Friends and family may call at Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home on Friday, May 22, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A memorial tribute will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Stockert- Paletti Funeral Home. Funeral Services and interment will follow at the Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Burnsville, WV with Pastor Delmas Singleton officiating.
