Obituary for Barbara Milam

Barbara C Milam, 91, of St. Albans, WV passed on May 4, 2020 at home. She was born to the late Paul and Orva Chidester on November 3, 1928.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Paul Kent “Kenny” Milam in 2014; husband: Glen Milam in 2006; and sister: Dr. Elisabeth Chidester and husband Dr. James Duran of Lewiston, NY.

Barbara is survived by son: Scott Milam and wife Danielle of St. Albans, WV; grandsons: Paul Kent Milam II and Colin Glen Edward Milam and wife Rebecca Ferrell; nephew: James Duran II and wife Elisabeth of Pittsburgh, PA; great niece: Victoria Duran; and great nephew William Duran.

Barbara was a child during the great depression, and later graduated from St. Albans High School shortly after WWII. She attended Morris Harvey University, UC today, where she met her late husband, Glen Milam. She began her teaching career in the 50s and completed 32 years of service for Kanawha County Schools. Barbara and Glen loved to travel. She worked for the Department of Defense Schools and was able to see 6 of the seven continents; she lived in the Philippines, Japan, and England. After recovering from a stroke, she travelled back to Europe, Germany, Panama and Alaska.

Barbara’s life is not to be mourned; she celebrated and you should too. Please don’t worry about sending flowers, she would want you to take your loved ones to dinner instead.
