Obituary for Frederick Melvin

Frederick B. Melvin, 71, of Exchange passed away on April 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was born in Sutton, WV on July 4, 1948 to the late Beulah Tharp Clutter and Oliver H. Melvin.
Frederick is survived by his wife: Brenda Dianne Melvin; daughters: Pamela Sue Thompson and Shannon Elaine Melvin; granddaughter: Elena Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Kenneth Cogar, and Aubree Thompson; brothers: Dwayne Cutlip, Pat Cutlip, and William “Bill” Melvin; sisters: Kay Hosey (Bert), Maryland Hinkle (Phil, Patricia Cutlip, Deloris Ware (George), Brenda Barker (Eddie), and Mary Dillon; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful boxer Annabelle.
Frederick was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter: Amber Thompson; grandson: Michael Thompson; brothers: Elbert Melvin, Charles Melvin, Raymond “Rusty” Clutter, Dwain Hosey, and Cecil Melvin; sisters: Jane Clutter and Clara Marie Melvin.
Frederick is a veteran of the United States Army. He proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War in the 25th Infantry. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart. He loved to coon hunt, deer hunt, fish, train his coon hounds, and attend club meeting for the Braxton County Coon Hunter Association here he held officer positions for many years. He was loved by many and never met a stranger.
The family wished to hold a private family visitation at Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Rd, Flatwoods, WV 26621. Graveside services with Full Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #33 will be conducted on Friday, May 1, 2020 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Russell Shaw officiating at the Westfall Cemetery in Exchange, WV Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Legion Post #33 Honor Guard.
