Obituary for Marbia Edra Tonkin

Marbia E. Tonkin, 102 ½, of Corley, WV was called home to be with the Lord on February 26, 2020. Marbia was born on June 15, 1917 in Falls Run, WV to Harrison and Seba Lowther. In addition to her parents, Marbia is preceded in death by husband: Felix Arnold Tonkin; daughter: Tonita Bailey Dale; brothers: Harley Lowther, Harold Lowther, and infant brother; sisters: Edith Teter, Erma Veith, Mabel Mealey, Juanita Williams, Eva Lowther and foster sister: Vergie Currence.
Marbia is survived by a large and loving family. She leaves behind daughter: Linda E. (Jim) Kinder; sons; Vernon A. (Rita) Tonkin, and Don M (Vicki) Tonkin; grandchildren: Lisa (Mike) Stewart, Michelle (Tim) Duckworth, Joni Tonkin, Chris (Andrea) Tonkin, Kellie Tonkin, and Corey (Nikki) Tonkin; great grandchildren: Adam Flynn, Cole Tonkin, Dylan Wilfong, Ethan Wilfong, Piper Tonkin, Harley Tonkin, and Isaac White; great-great grandchild: Mason Flynn; and her beloved dog and companion, Gretchen.
Marbia married her soul mate, Arnold Tonkin on June 29, 1949 when they eloped to Catlettsburgs, Kentucky. She was an active member of the community and lifelong Christian. She was a member of Corley United Methodist Church for many years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s Society and Burnsville CEOS club and later moved to the Heaters club because it was nearer to home. Marbia stayed busy well into her 90’s; she hunted, fished, gardened, and canned. Marbia wasn’t afraid to get dirty and worked along side Arnold in everything he did. They were married for 58 wonderful years.
Friends and family may call at Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Rd, Flatwoods, WV 26601, on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 12:00pm-2:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm.
