Obituary for Lillian B. Stalnaker

Lillian B. Stalnaker (née Brown), 88 years old, left this life on August 17, 2019. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa P. Saunders, grandson Jason (Ruth), great-granddaughters Eleanor Lillian and Miriam Leona, sister Myrtle Mae Morris, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, the late Harry and Myrtle (Squires) Brown, 7 brothers, Hugh, Earl, Solomon, John Chester, Harry Junior, Curtis, and Homer Brown; and 3 sisters, Annabelle Linger, Lucille Harper, and Maxine Brown.
Lillian was the 10th of 12 children and grew up on a farm in Braxton County, West Virginia. At the age of 18 she began her career as a teacher in a one room school house teaching all eight grades. In 1955, she moved to Cleveland and began teaching for Cleveland Public Schools. She taught at Scranton and Walton Elementary Schools for the next 32 years. She received the Martha Holden Jennings Award in 1976.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a faithful congregant of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Holy Family Hospice, 6707 State Road Parma, OH 44134. The family would like to express thanks to everyone for their love and support during the last year with special thanks to Patricia Jefferies, Denise Lucas, Debbie Ames, and Sandy Honaker.
Her family will receive family and friends at Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621, on Thursday, August 22nd from 10 am to 11am with a service to follow at 11 am.
