Obituary for Mary Katie Catherine Shaffer
Mary “Katie” Catherine (Godfrey) Shaffer, 74, 0f Glenville, WV went to Heaven, on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Glenville Center, Glenville, WV following an illness. She was born on August 14, 1944 in Copen, WV to the late Donald Lovell Godfrey and Margret “Maggie” (Ball) Godfrey. She was married to the late Dale Junior Shaffer who preceded her in death on September 30, 1997.
Katie is survived by sons Richard Shaffer of Glenville, WV, Dema Lewis Shaffer and wife Wendy of Anchorage, AK, Robert Paul Shaffer and wife Darlene of Lake Author, LA, daughter’s Sherry Watts of Burnsville, WV, Barbara Lattea and husband Robert of Seminary, MS, Dianna Shaffer of Mt. Forrest, MS. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren Katie is survived by her siblings Charles Godfrey, of Flat Rock MI, Pete Godfrey of Copen, WV, Donnie Godfrey of Grayson, KY, and Virginia Crawl of Newport Richie, FL. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband Katie was preceded in death by siblings James Edwin (Jake), William Francis (Bill) or (Francis), Mary Louise (Lou), Marie June (June), Annabelle (Ann),), Leona Jane (Ownie) and Carl Jr., (Dick)
Katie was a dedicated home maker for her family and she enjoyed cooking for them and tending to her children and grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s needs. She was a great cook and was known for her world class biscuits and potato salad. She worked for a number of years in home health care and later worked for private individuals. Later in life she enjoyed playing games on the computer, being on-line, and she also enjoyed watching soap operas and days of our lives was her favorite. Katie had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and will be sadly missed by all.
