Obituary for Donnie Shields

Donnie  Shields
Donnie H. Shields, 74, of 664 North Tenney Drive, Buckhannon, WV formerly of Flatwoods went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Shields was born on February 16, 1944 in Orlando, Braxton County, WV to the late Hoye Shields and Matilda (Shaver) Shields.
In addition to his parents Donnie was preceded in death by siblings Roy Shields, Clyde Shields, Glenn Shields, Grant “Jimmie” Shields, William “Bill” Shields, Nancy Ruby, and Mary Shields.
Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years whom he married on June 29, 1965, Marilyn (Barton) Shields. Also surviving are children Brian Lee Shields of Cleveland, OH and daughter Tracy Ann (Shields) Weatherbee and husband Douglas and two grandsons Clayton Douglas and Chase Donahue Weatherbee of Massillon, OH. Also surviving are siblings Melvin Shields of Clarksburg, WV, John Shields of Weston, WV, Glenna Mae Pauley and husband Dana of New Brunswick, Canada, and several nieces and nephews.
Donnie graduated from Walkersville High School with the class of 1962 where he lettered in basketball and holds the school record for the most points scored in one game. After High School he attended Potomac State College where he continued his basketball career while studying engineering. Donnie served in the United States Air Force and retired with 30 years of service from Chevrolet as an electrician at the Parma, OH Plant.
He enjoyed studying the Bible, feeding the birds and listening to bluegrass and country music. His other interest included playing cards with family, trains, astronomy, puzzles, games, and SC-FI TV shows and movies.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jason Allen officiating. Interment will follow Funeral Services in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters, WV with Full Military Honors conducted by the Lewis County Honor Guard. The family would like to thank WV Hospice of Buckhannon, Dr. Brown, Dr. Fleming and his staff at the Davis Cancer Center, and Helen and Kenny Shields.
