Obituary for Romie Lee Hughes

Romie Lee Hughes, 77, of Burnsville, WV passed away at his home surrounded by him loving family March 11, 2018. He was born in IvyDale, WV on March 14, 1940 to the late Ernest Newton Hughes and Garrnett Ann (Hall) Hughes. Also preceding him in death was son, Keith Michael Hughes; daughter, Pamela Jean Gregory and brother, James Hughes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann (Bragg) Hughes, whom he married on June 7, 1959. Also surviving are sons, Jody Mead (Cheryl) Hughes, Belington, WV, David Lee (Deborah) Hughes, Burnsville, WV and Jeremy Scott Hughes of Burnsville, WV; sister Dolly Jean (Bud) Rose of Fruit Port, MI. He is survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He served his Country in the United States Airforce and worked in the glass manufacturing business. He was a member of the Little Kanawha Independent Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and loved to attend. He enjoyed old cars and was especially fond of the 1950 Ford, Chevy Corvair and loved to rebuild them. You could often find him on the front porch, 4 wheeling or in the yard working or spending time with his friends and family. He was very proud of his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren and would often brag to family and friends about them and their accomplishments.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 11-1 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621. Funeral Services will follow calling hours and start at 1:00 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home with Reverend Ronzel Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens where he will be buried by his daughter with Full Military Honors being conducted by American Legion Post 33.
