Obituary for James "Jim" Carter, Sr.

James "Jim"  Carter, Sr.
James “Jim” Carter, Sr., 79, of Gassaway, WV passed away October 25, 2017 at the Genesis Health Care Center. He was born July 24, 1938 in Ireland, WV to the late Alva Lee Carter and Nellie (Gifford) Carter. Also preceding him in death were brothers Richard and Delbert Carter and sister, Annabelle Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Kennedy) Carter; sons, James “Jim” Carter Jr and Tracy of Shenandoah Junction, WV and John Carter, Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Steffaine Steward and David, Baltimore, MD and Jacob and Jordan Carter; great grandchild, Kathleen “Katy” Steward.
Jim attended Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Gassaway, WV. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed by CSX Transportation Company for thirty one years. Jim was a true example of a family man. He is remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather, and an excellent provider. He enjoyed remodeling homes and was a handyman who could fix anything. He also enjoyed cars, the PT Cruiser being his favorite, and taking the family on road trips, especially to Amish Country.
Prior to Fellowship there will be a Rosary held from 9:30-10:00 a.m. at the Church. Following Rosary there will be an hour of fellowship on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 10-11 am at the Mary Bailey Fisher Fellowship Hall, 624 Kanawha Street, Gassaway, WV 26624. Mass will follow at the Saint Thomas Catholic Church, 624 Kanawha Street, Gassaway, WV at 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Thomas Catholic Church, 624 Kanawha Street, Gassaway, WV 26452 with Father Thien Nguyen officiating. There will also be a graveside service at a later date at the Glen Haven Memorial Park, Inc., at Glen Burnie, MD. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in James “Jim” Carter name to Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
