Obituary for Roy Dale Brown

Roy Dale Brown
Roy Dale BrownRoy Dale Brown, 66 of Flatwoods, WV earned his heavenly wings on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH after suffering for 4 months from a very rare form of brain cancer, intravascular lymphoma. He was born in Sutton, WV on March14. 1951 and is survived by parents Betty Brown Huffman and Chester Huffman of Heaters. He is also survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Johnson Brown, daughter Stephanie Arden and husband Jeff, son Eric Brown and wife Kendra, all of Flatwoods; and the apples of his eyes, his grandchildren Kira Marie Brown, Ethan Jacob Brown, Olivia Grace Arden and Braden Zeb Arden. He also leaves behind his brother Rick Huffman (Melinda) of Burnsville and sisters Laura Rhoades (Skip) of Glenville, andBeth Barnette (James) of Burnsville; nephews, Cory Huffman, Kevin Rhoades, and AdamBarnette, and a niece, Erin Barnette; Uncles Buster Brown of Burnsville and Joe Brown of Grafton, OH, and a host of cousins and dear friends.Roy Dale graduated from Burnsville High School in 1969 and was drafted into the US Army where he served in Germany until 1972. After his time in the Army, he worked on road construction jobs on I-79 and US 50 before becoming a heavy equipment operator for Juliana Coal Company and then Alex Energy, and was know by his co-workers as “Buckwheat.” After spending 34 years in the coal fields, he retired to the Stone Run Hill Farm where he and Linda raise beef cattle-a life he truly enjoyed with all his family closeby. He loved to attend basketball games supporting the Braxton County Eagles and the Braxton County Middle School Knights. He enjoyed going on farm tours concerning differences in agriculture approaches and learning new methods or ideas that could benefit farming. He truly loved family gatherings and time spent laughing and joking with the kids and good home-cooked meals. He enjoyed 80’s music and would quiz you on “one hit wonders.” He liked watching a good western, the Andy Griffith Show, and RFDTV. He was a Dale Earnhardt fan for many years and would attend Nascar races. He enjoyed hot rods, going to various car shows or NHRA drag races. He loved his life on the farm, and time spent talking to his various pet cows, brushing them and giving them treats. Roy Dale was a member of the Braxton County Farm Bureau and attended the Stone Run United Methodist Church, after rededicating his life to Christ on Easter morning two years ago. As per his wishes, his body has been cremated with his ashes to be scattered on the family farm and there will be no services. Anyone who wishes to donate in Roy Dale’s memory may donate to the Braxton County Farm Bureau, the StoneRun United Methodist Church, or to your local Hospice organization. Roy Dale was one who always put other’s needs ahead of his own. To celebrate his life and his concern for others, please take the time to help those in need-visit those who are sick or shut in, visit the elderly and ask if they need anything done, and if you know someone who has fallen on hard times, please lend a hand.Well done, my good and faithful servant, your work here on earth is complete. You have more than earned your reward, and we will always love and miss you.Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at stockert-paletti.com.The Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home of Flatwoods, WV will be caring for the Brown family.
