Obituary for Nelvia Jordan

Nelvia Leona (Cogar) Jordan, 83, of Flatwoods, WV passed away February 1, 2017 at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV. She was born January 23, 1934 in Replete, WV the daughter of the late Rosco Cogar and Brenace (McCartney). Also preceding her in death was her husband, Ronald Burt Jordan whom she married in 1977 and who passed February 11, 2002; son, Mark Bright; brothers, Buster and Buddy Cogar.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Richard Bright (Elizabeth/Lynn), Flatwoods, WV, Clarence Bright (Chris), Sutton, WV, John Jordan (Debbie), AK, Kevin Jordan (Jeanne) OH; daughters, Ginnie Anderson, Flatwoods, WV, Beth Barker (Jim), Sutton, WV, Debbie Jordan, OH and Dawne Jordan, OH; brother, Paul Cogar, Flatwoods, WV; sisters, Daisy Maxon (John) Bruceton Mills, WV, Chrissy Cogar, Camden on Gauley, Darlene Cogar McCourt; several grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Nelvia was employed by the Braxton County Board of Education for 30 plus years and was head cook at Braxton County High School for many of those years until she retired in 1996. She believe in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of the Flatwoods United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was treasurer for the Women’s National Missionary Auxiliary. She was a member of the Flatwoods Park and Recreation Board where she served in several offices. She was very much a people person who loved to smile and laugh. She enjoyed reading Nora Roberts, christian fiction books, sewing, crocheting, yard selling, gardening and her flowers. Most of all she loved spending time with and cooking for her family and grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home from 11-1 p.m. Funeral services will follow visitation at 1:00 pm in the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John McQuain and Reverend Doug Smailes officiating. Interment will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Flatwoods Community Building Parks and Recreation Board, in care of Mike Johnson, P.O. Box 28, Flatwoods, WV 26621.
