Obituary for Vivian Darlene Strader

Vivian Darlene Strader
Vivian Darlene (Kuhl) Strader, 82, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2018. She was born on October 11, 1936, in Burnsville, W.Va., to Minnie B. (Spaur) and Cecil Dan Kuhl.
She spent part of her childhood in Burnsville until the family moved to Middle River, Md., and later New Castle, Del. She graduated from William Penn High School, New Castle, in 1955.
On July 18, 1959, Vivian married Franklin D. Strader, originally from Orlando, W.Va. They lived in New Castle and later Newark, Del., for many years. They had one daughter, Tricia Lynn Strader.
The family were members for 20-plus years at then-named Pike Creek Baptist Temple. Vivian and Frank were involved in various Bible studies, and taught Sunday school for a time. They enjoyed dinners and get-togethers with friends and members of her family in Delaware. She also participated in Newark Christian Women’s Club.
In 2002, the family moved to Morgan County, W.Va., where she participated in Daughters of the American Revolution events and Scarlett O’Hatters Red Hats group events with her daughter.
Vivian enjoyed Western movies and learning about American Western culture and other cultures, was a history buff, and mystery buff. She liked watching mysteries, Westerns, and classic old movies with her daughter. She and her husband participated in How to Host a Murder mystery game parties with friends in Delaware.
They also attended several country music concerts over the years and enjoyed meeting the artists, of which there were several famous ones. Her favorite singer was George Strait.
She was a Civil War living historian with her husband and daughter, and was in “Gods and Generals” as an extra. She liked cooking, studying family genealogy and going to Scottish highland games (she was part of Campbell Clan), and watching wildlife from the backyard. She had a great sense of humor, and loved telling jokes.
She was a loving mother and wife, with a good heart who always tried to help anyone who needed it. She was proud of her family as they are of her.
She is survived by her husband and daughter, a sister Laura Soltis of Wilmington, Del., brother and sister-in-law Lee and Carol Kuhl of Florida, two nephews and families, cousins, and husband’s family in various states. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Audrey Kuhl Bean, brother Landis D. Kuhl and family, a sister who died in infancy, and brother Leland Kuhl in childhood.
Family will receive friends Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 12-2 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621. Funeral Service will be held immediately following in the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Alan Strader and Pastor Junior Lee Strader.
