Detmor  Malcomb
Mr. Detmor Hartsel Malcomb “Skip”, age 85 died on Wednesday September 12th at his granddaughter’s residence in Waycross, GA, following a lengthy illness.
Hartsel was born in Hettie, WV and attended Burnsville High School. He joined the U.S. Navy as teenager and served from 1951 through 1955. He was a member of the United States Naval Construction Battalions known as the “Seabees”. Following his discharge from active duty, Hartsel joined the U.S. Naval Reserves, retiring in 1989, following 25 years of service.
In addition to his naval service, Hartsel was employed with Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, OH where he worked for 31 years retiring as an engine builder. Following his retirement, he moved to Crouse, NC and resided for several years and then to Portal, GA in 2003. He was of the Methodist Faith.
Mr. Malcomb was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Hitt Malcomb; his parents, Orla Daniel Malcomb and Fanny Opal Hardway Malcomb; a son, Daniel Lee Malcomb; a daughter, Lisa Marie Malcomb Drury; a grandson, Stacy Cutright and a brother, Alva Lee Malcomb.
Surviving are his grandchildren, Malcomb Stewart and wife Alexis of Kingsland, GA Eric Daniel Stewart of Kingsland, GA; Tierra Stewart of Folkston, GA and Katie Drury of Waycross, GA; two sisters, Jane Gibson of Buchannon, WVA and Wanda Ratliff of Seville, OH and eight great grandchildren, Amaya Moats, Conner Moats, Isabella Stewart, Tyler Stewart, Makenzie Stewart, Kaiden Wright, Vallery Stewart and Delylah Stewart.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621 from 12:30-2 p.m. Funeral Services will immediately follow in the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Duane Brown officiating. Interment will follow Funeral Services in the Greenhill Church Cemetery with Full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post 33.
