Margaret Mess

Beloved mother and wife, passed away on Monday, October 16th after a lengthy battle with ALS.

She was born on February 9, 1951 in Sutton, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Glenard and Iris (Hefner) Vannoy of Burnsville, WV and the granddaughter of the late Wallace and Roma Hefner of Burnsville, WV.

Margaret graduated from Clarion University in 1972 with a Bachelors Degree in Library Science.

After graduating she became a library media specialist at Lewiston Porter Central School for 33 years, before retiring in 2006 and she worked as an office assistant with Miracle Ear for six years.

She was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was involved in the Sunday School Program, Bible studies and several committees.

Margaret was also on the board to help create the Little Wonders Childcare Center where she spent many hours volunteering once it had opened.

She is survived by her husband Fred, two daughters Angela Mess of Philadelphia and Rachel (Mark) D'Amico of Pittsburgh, three grandchildren Jonah Matthew, Micah Henry and Raynah Margaret D'Amico, a brother , Kenneth (Patricia) Vannoy, she was the niece of Wally and Thomas Hefner, of Heaters, WV; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Martha Guyette.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 3-4 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV. Interment will follow in the Tichnel Cemetery with Pastor Matthew Kofhal officiating. Words of Comfort and memories may be shared at stockert-paletti.com.
