Obituary for Helen Wine (Scarff)
Helen Scarff Wine, 86, was born in Upshur County, WV on May 22, 1930. Her spirit went back to the God that gave it on June 27, 2016 at 8:35 a.m. Helen was preceded in death by her father, Herbert (Red) Henry Scarff, mother, Dora Bernice Moore, step-mother, Clarice Scarff, and Uncle Elbert (Red) and Ivy Jane Oldaker who raised her. On July 4, 1947, she married James Lee Wine and they spent 69 years together.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Sondra Casto and husband Larry of New Martinsville, WV, Jane Freshour and husband Charles of Burnsville, Cheryl Wine of Burnsville, Carol Bucklew and husband Bruce of Jetersville, VA, and Sean Wine and wife Anne of Sunnyside, NY. Also surviving are grandchildren, Michele Casto, Marla Cumpston, Michael Casto, Clint Freshour, Alex Wine, Ashley Williams, Ryan Bucklew, CW Freshour; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Olivia, Shana, Mason, Cole, Crew, Aven, Reeve, Trevor, Madison, Landon; great-great-grandchild, Jaxon Casto. Also surviving is one step-brother Bill Richards.
Mrs. Wine was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3757. She served for 52 years as secretary and treasurer of Right Hand Fork United Methodist Church. She also was 4-H Leader, TOPS 25 year member, and served on the board of directors for the Braxton County Senior Center. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and quilting and won numerous awards for her quilts. She loved her family most of all.
Family will receive friends on Thursday June 30, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwood, WV 26621. Funeral services will be held Friday July 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doug Smailes officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Kanawha Memorial Gardens in Heaters. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Right Hand Fork United Methodist Church. 33 Bragg Run Road, Burnsville, WV 26335.
