Life Story of Mary Ann Rogers


Mary Ann Rogers, 72, of Flatwoods, WV passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, OH after an extended illness. Mary was born in Gassaway, WV on October 8, 1943 a daughter of the late Bert Hyer and Orpha (Skidmore) Hyer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death in 2007 by her husband of 42 years, James E. Rogers.
She is survived by son Randall K. Rogers and daughter in law Becky Astorg Rogers of Vienna, WV. Also surviving are grandchildren McClaren Mary Rogers, Meredith Brooke Rogers, Garrett Humphrey and Mason Humphrey all of Vienna, WV, Alisha Humphrey of Pittsburg, PA. In addition to her son and grandchildren she is also survived by sister Janet Burnside of Dunbar, WV, and nieces Leigh Vredeveld of Beckley, WV, Phoebe Burnside of Abingdon, VA, and Toby Burnside of Murfreesboro, TN.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Sutton High School with the class of 1961, Glenville State College, and West Virginia University. She was employed by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services for 34 years.
Mary Ann was an active participant in her community. She served the Town of Flatwoods as a member of Town Council for several years. She was a member of Rotary International, Lions Club, and the Flatwoods United Methodist Church. She was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, gardening, and activities with her grandchildren.
In recent years, Mary Ann was an active member of the Brookdale Senior Living Center located in Marietta, OH where she enjoyed many activities and made numerous friends.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 11-1 p.m. at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621. Funeral services will follow visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home with Reverend Doug Smailes officiating. Interment will follow funeral services in the Flatwoods Cemetery.
